U.S. Steel posts 1st quarter loss
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – U.S. Steel Corp. reported a first quarter loss of $219 million, compared with a first quarter loss last year of $86 million.
The company said the loss was due to a $399 million charge for the sale of its Serbian manufacturing plant.
U.S. Steel operates mills in Gary, East Chicago and Portage in Northwest Indiana.

Leggett and Platt to expand Kouts operation
KOUTS – Leggett and Platt Inc. has announced it is moving part of its Kentucky operation to its 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Kouts. The company manufactures residential furnishings and commercial fixtures.
Because of the move, the company will invest $275,000 in the Kouts operation, one of six it has in Indiana.
