Holladay Properties to develop LaPorte project

LAPORTE – Holladay Properties has been selected by the City of LaPorte to develop the city’s NewPorte Landing Redevelopment Project on the site of the former Allis-Chalmers factory just north of downtown.

The 150-acre project sits along Clear Lake.

Holladay is the developer of the Ameriplex at the Port in Portage and other similar project around Indiana.

Dawn Foods to move to Merrillville

MERRILLVILLE – Dawn Foods, which operates bakeries in Munster and Crown Point, has announced it will consolidate the two operations into a new location in the AmeriPlex at the Crossroad in Merrillville.

The company said it will invest $15 million in the 120,000-square-foot production plant. Together, the Munster and Crown Point operations have 72 employees.

Valparaiso shopping center has new owner

VALPARAISO – Inland Real Estate Corp. has acquired Valparaiso Walk, a 137,000-square-foot shopping center at Silhavy Road and LaPorte Avenue for $21.9 million. The center is anchored by Bed Bath & Beyond, Marshalls, Best Buy and Michaels.

Inland Real Estate is based in Oak Brook, Ill., and owns shopping centers throughout the Midwest.

H.J. Umbaugh to move into IronWorks

MISHAWAKA – IronWorks, a 17,000-square-foot office building erected in 2008 in Mishawaka now has its first tenant. The accounting firm H.J. Umbaugh and Associates has signed a least for the entire third floor in the building.

Al’s to take over Jewel-Osco building

MICHIGAN CITY – Lakeshore Foods Corp. has announced it will open in the Jewel-Osco building in Michigan City. Jewel is withdrawing from Michigan City and closed its store on Oct. 8.

LaPorte expands industrial park

LAPORTE – A 137-acre expansion of Thomas Rose Industrial Park has been dedicated by Gov. Mitch Daniels. The new area has room for 1.2 million square feet of industrial space.

Sale of Chase Tower takes a step forward

SOUTH BEND – Efforts to sell the 25-story Chase Tower in downtown South Bend have moved ahead with a vote by the City Council on a resolution making the sale a top priority for the city.
